As a responsible company in the energy industry, K&I is promoting efforts toward decarbonization. We are working to grasp and reduce GHG emissions by delivering steel pipes to expand sales of next-generation energy, promoting decarbonization with steel manufacturers, and using Marubeni-Itochu Steel's decarbonization solution MIeCO2.
Nowadays, decarbonization throughout the supply chain is being considered as an urgent task, and through our activities, we are determined to actively work toward decarbonization so as to contribute in reducing our customers' Scope 3 emissions.

solution MIeCO2
We supply steel pipes for next-generation energy projects such as hydrogen and CCUS (carbon capture, storage and utilization). We support the development of clean energy infrastructure and contribute to reducing CO2 emissions throughout the society. We will procure and supply high-quality steel pipes that withstand particularly severe pressure & corrosive environments, and will help promote the realization of technically advanced projects.
Decarbonization applications | Project site | Supplied materials | Supply period |
Ammonia co-firing power generation demonstration evaluation project | Southeast Asia | Boiler tubes | 2023 |
Biomass power generation | Japan | Steel pipes for plants | 2023 |
Biomass power generation | Korea | Boiler tubes + steel pipes for plants | 2024 |
We support the "JFE 2050 Carbon Neutral Declaration" and will continue to work toward achieving zero CO2 emissions by 2050. As the JFE Group, we are promoting the COURS50 project and developing a steelmaking process using hydrogen. One of our goals is to procure low-carbon products, and we aim to satisfy our customers not only in terms of price, delivery and quality, but also in terms of low-carbon emission.
As our suppliers develop low-carbon products for a carbon-free society, we will also be actively aiming to procure low-carbon products. From the perspective of LCA, not only products with a low carbon footprint but also high-quality products with a longer life will also contribute to decarbonization, and these products we hope to aim to expand sales of, adding new value in terms of "low carbon".
We are advancing our decarbonization strategy together with members of MIeCO2, a decarbonization solution developed by Marubeni-Itochu Steel.
First, we will grasp our company's Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions (4.87t-CO2 in fiscal 2023), and will continue to monitor GHG emissions and verify the effectiveness of reduction measures imposed.
In the future, we hope to contribute to our customers' Scope 3 reduction by grasping the GHG emissions per ton of steel pipe that we deliver.
